"A positive plan for Sarasota County"
Do you want to rescue our economy from even more harm by development out of control, with values driven down by supply far in excess of demand? Do you want to protect Sarasota County’s environment, neighborhoods and quality of life so that people are attracted here rather than driven away? Do you believe growth should be made to pay its own way instead of tax hikes to subsidize development and that developers should be prevented from overcrowding our roads and overstressing our water supplies? If so, then you’re in the right place. For over 20 years, Control Growth Now has worked to protect and enhance all that makes Sarasota County a special place to live, work and visit. We have a positive plan for Sarasota County. Join us in striving for a better tomorrow, for ourselves and for generations yet to come.

Over 20 years of Service
On April 14, 1989, an organization was born with the mission of controlling growth and development in Sarasota County in a way that protects residents, taxpayers and the environment. Originally named GEO and changed in 2003 to Control Growth Now, our grassroots citizens group has had a major impact on the growth and environmental policies of Sarasota County and its cities.

The CGN Agenda
Leading state and local politicians are calling for weaker controls on development, to allow more traffic congestion, taxpayer subsidies of developers and environmental harm in order to spur even more of the overdevelopment that has crashed our economy. Control Growth Now has a six-point plan to counter these schemes, in order to protect our homes and our community.

Green Light
to Gridlock?

State Growth Laws Have Been Repealed.

Now City and County Commissioners Will Decide Whether To Allow Developers To Overcrowd Our Roads.

Tell The Politicians: Don’t Give a Green Light to Gridlock.

The Fruitville Initiative How about a $350,000 taxpayer subsidy of developers, with much more to come?

How about funding that at a time when the County is cutting back library hours, law enforcement, parks and other public needs?

How about putting it all together in a series of secret meetings between property owners and public officials in violation of the Sunshine Law?

Well, all of that was approved by a vote of the County Commission, without a public hearing, on February 10, 2010.

The Broken Promise of Sarasota 2050
A Betrayal of the Public Trust

The Sarasota County Commission’s controversial Sarasota 2050 Plan was supposed to be a balance. The County abandoned the I-75 barrier to eastern urban sprawl which had held for decades, opening the rural lands to intense urban development.

In return, the Commissioners promised the public that developers would be required to make certain sacrifices as trade-offs, including enhanced environmental protections. Now that all may become an empty, broken promise. A majority of the County Commission voted to excuse the first Sarasota 2050 developer from greenway and greenbelt requirements and ultimately all of the public interest protections in the plan are at risk of being gutted.
